Download Managers Connection and Split Parts Limiting

It is necessary for you to read the following tutorials, they will explain how to limit your download managers from dossing the shared hosting we are on. If you are found to be using your download manager to split parts into more than 5 at a time (for one download), you will be permanently banned. We have to do this, otherwise the generator will have to be shutdown anyway due to overload.

IDM Exception for downloading from RapidGen
UPDATE: Remember to either turn off 'Show Start Download Dialog' or turn on "Start Downloading Immediately while showing Download File Info Dialog" or you will not be able to resume your link download (the link will register as 'already started').

How to limit your connections with Internet Download Manager (IDM)
Follow this, it's real simple, and the site will lag less when you use it. 7 connection per file is enough, it isn't fair on the host nor on other members downloading (done automatically by connection limiter anyway!).

Good tutorial there szalinski smile.gif
But i would rather suggest to use the exception option in IDM for our gen thus users will not need to change it everytime before download and also they will not forget either biggrin.gif

IDM and other download manager default connection settings hog premium gen sites' speed and bandwidth, as php can't really cope well with all the connections. These tutorials help to speed up the server so everyone can benefit in the long run.

in short, this is a precaution so that the server may not crash due to excessive load smile.gif

updated to hopefully show clearly how IDM should be configured because of its problematic 'File Info' dialog box.

Hi Szal,

I'm using Free Download Manager but I think the program has changed slightly. I can't seem to find the default download settings. However, I've changed the Max connections and Max connections per server and such to 1. Is this okay?

edit - Ah, in order to set the number of sections in the latest version you need to go to Tools > Options > New Downloads > Advanced.

Ah, I think it must be that I'm using the Light version. It's 3.0 build 848.
